ZDNet posted an article indicating that, according to The NPD Group, the number of Internet users paying for digital music increased by just over 8 mln in 2008 to 36 mln Internet users. Purchases of online digital music downloads increased by 29% since 2007; they now account for 33% of all music tracks. There were nearly 17 mln fewer CD buyers in 2008 compared to 2007. The decline in music purchasing was led by a 19% drop in CD sales. Only 58% of Internet users reported purchasing CDs or digital music downloads 2007, versus 65% in 2007.

I have to confess that while I’ve converted all my CD’s to mp3′s, I only just recently made my first purchase of digital music. I wasn’t very pleased with the purchase; there were some portions of the songs that were garbled. That didn’t come as a complete surprise becaues I’ve experienced the same with music that I’ve converted. I guess in light of the fact that the digital download was only half of what the CD would have cost it’s still a good deal.

cnet reported that Sony announced a partnership with Google Wednesday night that will bring a half-million classic books to the Sony Reader Digital Book. Users will now be able to access the free book downloads through Sony’s eBook Store.

For years, Google has scanned books and converted them to digital format–at least in part–for its Google Book Search project. For now, Google is providing books to Sony whose copyrights have expired, which means most of the new additions to the Sony Reader will have been published before 1923.

The following pictures of Lenovo’s Pocket Yoga touchscreen netbook showed up on Flickr. It looks like a very handy gadget. It has an ultra-wide display and a leather-bound shell giving it an appearance much like a wallet or checkbook.

What seems ominously missing are any specs and I’d love to see some images actually showing it in use; it would seem in all the images below that it’s not even turned on. Check out more images on Flickr.

Have a file you don’t know how to open? Think you need an expensive piece of software to open it? Chances are there is a great free program that’s just as good as the expensive one, and you’ll find it here.

OpenWith.org provides detailed information about most file extensions and links to free programs that can open and create each type of file.

The folks at OpenWith.org say they have found themselves helping their parents and friends open obscure file types time and time again and decided that this information was best shared with everybody. There are plenty of great programs out there that will cost you hundreds of dollars to do what you need. What you probably don’t know is that there is usually free software that it just as good. You just don’t know about it.

This collection of Chevy’s belongs to Dennis Albaugh in Ankeny, Iowa,  which is just north of Des Moines.

The personal & private collection consists of 110 + Chevrolet convertibles all years from 1912 to 1975 & Corvette convertibles from 1953 to 1975.

That is a Chevy convertible from every year of manufacture EXCEPT 1939!

The reason for the missing 1939 convertible is that Chevy didn’t make a convertible in ’39 — and ended its convertible line in ’75!
